Lighting - Compact Flourescent Lights
Question: Can I Really Save by Switching to Compact Fluorescent Lamps?
Answer: Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are initially more expensive; they can save you money in the long run. Here’s how, a 26- or 28-watt compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) provides the approximately the same amount of light as a 100-watt incandescent bulb. However, it will last about 8,000 hours (compared an incandescent bulb, which usually lasts about 1,000 hours). Using the CFL saves over 70 watts worth of energy. Less wattage means less energy used, which translates into savings for you.
