How Does Air Sealing Work?
Air sealing is the process of closing off cracks and openings that allow air flow into a home from outside. Many existing homes are not properly air sealed, which reduces comfort while increasing heating and cooling costs. Properly sealing a home is a low cost improvement that homeowners can make that will often decrease heating and cooling costs by up to 20%. A homeowner should always conduct air sealing before adding more insulation to their home. Otherwise, unconditioned air will simply bypass the new insulation like a heavy jacket with an open zipper in the front.
